21st Century Genetics, maintained their innovative marketing edge, with the inclusion of selected Holstein and Jersey embryo packages in their sale.
A new Australian RECORD was created when Coomboona Holsteins bid $4,800 per embryo, for a package of 8 embryos by the ill fated, unavailable and high LPI sire…ALTATRUMAN. The donor dam, one of Goldwyn’s finest daughters, in the $160,000 purchase of Gen I Beq Secret, sold account from the world famous Rocky Mountain Holstein stud. The Arena family has invested heavily into elite genetics in recent years, and their Coomboona prefix is backed by an impressive dairy complex, at Mooroopna near Shepparton in Northern Victoria. A 5000 cow complex is underway, and in future years visitors to IDW will no doubt make the short journey to view Alex Arena’s progress. The 3 Baxter eggs from the same dam, made $3,400 per embryo.
Jersey enthusiasts embraced the 30 embryos, offered in 6 packages on account of Rapid Bay Jerseys from Canada. In all, the 6 package lots averaged $1475 per embryo.
The sale average of $7,428 surpassed the debut 21st Century Genetics Select sale average of $6,989 in 2008.
21st Century Genetics Manager, Daryl Brown, said “the two 21st Select sales at IDW, have set new standards for all to follow in respect the presentation and genetic depth and diversity, which has reflected in the prices achieved. We were delighted with last year’s sale and accepted the challenge for the 2009 sale. Both the Semex and 21st Century Genetics sales, have now created healthy competition between the two companies, with the end result being two outstanding sales, which in turn benefits the vendors with pricing, and the purchasers with an increased and varied selection, concluded Mr Brown.
